Wilkes Basketball Set for Friday Games at Eastern

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams will continue Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play Friday at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa. with the women's game slated for 5:00 p.m. and the men to follow at 7:00 p.m. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday but rescheduled to Friday due to incoming winter weather this weekend.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters Friday's contest with a 6-8 overall record and 0-3 in MAC Freedom games after a 70-55 loss to DeSales at home Wednesday night.
 
Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) led the Colonels with 15 points and 11 rebounds against DeSales for her fourth double-double of the season. The junior guard leads the team with 7.9 points-per-game (ppg) and 5.7 rebounds-per-game (rpg). She is 13th among conference players in rebounding. Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) added 14 points and six rebounds last time out. The senior center is second on the team with 6.1 ppg and tied for eighth in the MAC Freedom along with Gabby Smicherko (Edwardsville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) with 11 blocks.
 
Freshman guard Macy Berryman (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) ranks ninth in the conference with 23 made three-pointers. Fellow freshman guard Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) is second on the team in rebounding and 19th in the conference with 4.9 rpg.
 
Wilkes ranks eighth in the conference in scoring offense at 54.1 ppg and third in scoring defense at 60.1 ppg. The Colonels are holding teams to a .340 field-goal percentage, good for second in the league.
 
Eastern enters the home contest with a 7-7 overall record and at 2-1 in the MAC Freedom. The Eagles defeated FDU-Florham 74-64 on the road Wednesday night.
 
Minika Glenn leads Eastern with 15.3 ppg (6th) while Jaelyn Harris follows with 13.1 (10th). Harris leads the conference with 39 made three-pointers. Kay Wulah is the Eagles leading rebounder with 8.6 rpg (4th) and she is also fourth in the conference with a .449 shooting percentage and third with 20 blocks. Viki Kneis ranks 11th with 6.1 rpg. Da'Naziah Brown leads the team with 2.8 assists-per-game (apg) (6th).
 
Eastern ranks fifth in the conference in scoring offense with 62.0 ppg and fourth in scoring defense at 61.1 ppg.
 
Eastern holds the 18-2 lead in the series dating back to the 2009-10 season after the two teams each defended their home court last season.
 
Men's Preview:
Wilkes is 8-6 overall and 1-2 in MAC Freedom action entering Friday. The Colonels dropped a 79-74 decision to conference-leader DeSales at home Wednesday night.
 
Senior guard Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) led Wilkes on Wednesday with a game-high 24 points. He leads the Colonels in scoring at 18.1 ppg. Pecorelli ranks among the conference leaders in numerous categories including points (5th), rebounding (6.7, 7th), three-pointers made (37, 3rd), assists (4.5, 2nd), steals (22, 4th), and minutes (34.4, 3rd).
 
Fellow senior guard Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) is ranked sixth in the conference with 16.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg, a .531 field-goal percentage, and 32.3 minutes-per-game. Jake Robel (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) is third on the team with 9.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg (8th). The sophomore forward is third in the conference with 21 blocks and a .587 field-goal percentage and also ranks seventh with 20 steals. Sophomore guard Sean Coller (Hershey, PA/Hershey) sits fifth among MAC Freedom players with a .429 three-point percentage and is eighth overall with 27 threes.
 
Junior forward Noah Jackson (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) recorded career-highs with 13 points and six rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench Wednesday against DeSales.
 
The Colonels continue to lead the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 80.2 ppg and are fourth at 75.0 ppg in scoring defense. Wilkes leads the league averaging 40.4 rebounds and 7.86 steals as a team.
 
Eastern is set to host the Colonels with a 7-7 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the conference. The Eagles defeated FDU-Florham 77-73 in overtime on the road Wednesday night.
 
William Blet leads Eastern with 12.8 ppg (12th) while Draig Ruff (12.4) and Michael Bowlers (12.1) also average in double-figures for scoring. Bowlers is fourth in the conference at 8.3 rpg and Blet follows in eighth with 6.4 rpg. Bowlers also ranks fourth among MAC Freedom players with a .577 shooting percentage and Blet is fourth with 20 blocks. Clifton Adams and Ruff are ranked second with 24 steals.
 
The Eagles rank seventh in scoring offense at 69.0 ppg and second in scoring defense at 70.1 ppg.
 
Dating back to the 2010-11 season the series is split 10-10 between the two programs. The Colonels went 2-1 against the Eagles last season including a 79-72 victory in a MAC Freedom semifinal game.
