Manhattanville Uses Power Play Goals to Defeat Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey

RYE, NY – Host Manhattanville College scored three times on the power play to defeat the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team Friday night by a 4-0 final in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. Alexa Rango (Hopewell Junction, NY/) tied her career high with 57 saves for the Colonels.

With the loss Wilkes dropped to 2-10-0 on the season and to 1-5-0 in the UCHC. Manhattanville improved its record to 8-5-2 overall and remained unbeaten in league play at 6-0-0.

Rango was the story for the Colonels as the sophomore goalkeeper stopped 57 of 61 shots for a .934 save percentage. Her 57 saves matched her total from last season at Morrisville State.

The Valiants were able to beat Rango for their first three goals on the power play. Adelle Clark scored 8:48 into the first period and Zoey Pellowitz and Taylor Ham followed with tallies at the 14:24 and 18:18 mark of the second period. Ham added the only even-strength goal of the contest 17:38 into the third period.

Manhattanville went 3-for-9 on the power play as Rango made 18 saves with the Colonels down a player. Wilkes was 0-for-6 on its power play chances in a penalty filled game.

The Valiants led 61 to 10 in shots on goal and 40 to 22 in faceoffs.

Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT) paced the Colonels with four shots while Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH) won 11 faceoffs. Wilkes blocked 15 shots in the game, led by three from Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ).

The Colonels return to the ice as they continue UCHC road action tomorrow at Neumann University with puck drop scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
