Early Goals Lift Neumann Past Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey 4-0
 
ASTON, PA – Host Neumann University scored three first period goals on way to a 4-0 shutout United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over visiting Wilkes University Saturday afternoon.
 
With the loss Wilkes slipped to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in UCHC games. Neumann improved to 9-7 overall and recorded its sixth win in conference play standing 6-1 on the season.
 
Neumann opened its scoring 1:39 into the first period using a power play goal from Emma Paton to take the early 1-0 lead. The teams traded scoring chances over the next 15 minutes of the frame before the Knights added to its lead with an even strength tally at the 16:47 mark thanks to Katelyn Brown's first goal of the season. Neumann finished off its three-goal period with a final strike with :56 seconds left in the frame to take a 3-0 advantage to the first intermission.
 
Brown added her second goal of the game 5:34 into the second period to push the lead to 4-0 where the game would finish after a scoreless final frame.
 
Neumann held a 59-41 shot advantage while converting 1-of-8 power play opportunities. The Colonels earned six power plays but were unable to convert on any attempts. The Wilkes blue liners did a fine job on the defensive end posting 16 blocked shots in the contest.
 
Alexa Rango (Hopewell Junction, NY/) and Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) split time in net for Wilkes with Rango finishing with eight saves while Joly posted 16 stops.
 
Wilkes continues UCHC play next Friday when the Colonels travel to Stevenson University for a matchup scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
