Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls 3-1 at Stevenson
STEVENSON, MD. – The Wilkes University Colonels hit the road for a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) showdown with the Stevenson Mustangs Friday night.
The Colonels (2-12, 1-7 UCHC) managed to get on the scoreboard late but it wasn't enough to overcome the Mustangs' (7-7-2, 5-4) advantage heading into the third period. The Colonels lost their third straight game in 3-1 fashion.
The Mustangs broke through early, scoring their first goal 3:09 into the game. They struck twice in the second, with goals 4:34 and 10:44 into the period. The Colonels managed to get one of their own in the third period, with freshman forward
Erica Sheaffer (New Hartford, NY) punching home a goal assisted by freshman defender
Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ) at the 7:04 mark.
Sophomore goaltender
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) recorded 39 saves out of 42 shots on goal. The Colonels defenders blocked 12 shots to the Mustangs' six.
The Colonels play once again tomorrow, traveling to Reading, Pa. to play the Alvernia Golden Wolves. The puck will drop at 2:00 p.m. on the second-ever game between the two schools. The Golden Wolves won the first game at the Toyota SportsPlex earlier this season 4-1.
