Wilkes Women's Hockey Captures First Road Win in 3-0 Shutout at Alvernia
 
READING, PA – Three different Colonels scored in three different periods to lead the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team to its first-ever road victory securing a 3-0 shutout at Alvernia University Saturday afternoon at the Body Zone.
 
Wilkes improved to 3-12 overall and 2-7 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contests. The win also marked the program's first-ever shutout victory. Alvernia dropped to 4-13 overall and 0-9 in UCHC games.
 
Julie Patterson (Trenton, NJ) put Wilkes on the board early when she found the back of the net off an assist from Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH) just :29 into the first period.
 
The Colonels added to their lead late in the second frame as Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT) struck for a goal thanks to helpers from Valerie Koenig (Arlington, TX) and Patterson with :11 left in the period.
 
Tubbs put the game away 7:49 into the third period scoring her fourth goal of the season with assists coming from Patterson and Castro.
 
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) played all 60 minutes in net for Wilkes collecting her first career shutout win making 21 saves on the day. Laurenne Fraser (Salt Lake City, UT) was impressive in the face-off circle winning 16 of her 22 draws in the victory.
 
Wilkes looks to continue its momentum next Saturday when it returns home for a UCHC matchup with Chatham University at 1:30 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
