Wilkes Wrestling Cruises to 47-6 Victory over Hunter
SCRANTON, PA.- The Colonels won nine of ten matches on the afternoon to take home a commanding neutral site victory against Hunter at Scranton University. The Colonels won six of their nine victories by fall or technical fall.
The Colonels set the tone for the match by recording back-to-back pins at 125 and 133 pounds respectively. Sophomore
Nicholas Bauer (Coplay, PA/Wyoming Seminary) took 1:12 to get his pin at 125, while freshman
Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) took 1:29 to get his own pin at 133 to earn the match-clinching points for the Colonels early on.
The Colonels would win the next five straight, four by technical fall. Senior
Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) would shut out his opponent and earn a 17-0 technical fall at 1:52 at 141-pounds, while sophomore
Max Shaffer (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) would cruise to an 11-5 decision at 149-pounds. Sophomore
Cody Dix (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), senior
Cole Walters (Mifflintown, PA/Juniata), and freshman
John Devito (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) would all earn technical falls at 157, 165, and 174 pounds respectively. Hunter would record its lone points at 184-pounds before the Colonels rounded out the day with a pair of victories at 197 and the heavyweight class.
The Colonels will travel to Williamsport, Pa. for the Budd Whitehill Duals Friday. They will battle with a pair of nationally-ranked foes that day, tackling no. 25 Washington and Lee at 10:30 a.m. before matching up with no. 23 Castleton at 1:30 p.m. The Colonels will conclude their day with a 4:30 p.m. bout against Ohio Northern.
