Nazareth Tops Wilkes Women's Hockey Despite Joly's Career Day
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Despite a career-high 68 saves in net for Wilkes University's
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI), host Nazareth College broke open a tie game after one period scoring three unanswered goals over the final 40 minutes on way to a 4-1 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) win Friday afternoon at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
Wilkes dropped to 4-14-1 overall and 3-9-1 in UCHC games following the road defeat. Nazareth picked up its eighth home victory moving to 16-3-3 overall and 10-1-2 in conference contests.
Rachel Rice scored 1:29 into the game to give the hosts a 1-0 lead before
Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH) answered back for Wilkes scoring off an assist from
Abigail Barcless (Hamilton, NJ) at the 10:24 mark of the first frame.
Nazareth broke the tie 3:12 into the second period and added to its lead eight minutes later with a power play goal to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. The Golden Flyers added an insurance tally 9:54 into the third period, the second strike on the man-up opportunity, to seal the home victory.
The loss overshadowed a tremendous effort from Joly in net finishing with the 68 stops including several point-blank attempts on the man advantage. Nazareth out-shot Wilkes 72-8 while going the entire 60 minutes without a penalty called against them.
The Colonels continue their road stretch tomorrow with a UCHC contest at Utica College starting at 2:00 p.m.
