Strong Effort for Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Despite 2-0 Setback at Utica
 
UTICA, N.Y. – Host Utica College scored one goal in the first period and added an insurance tally in the second frame on way to a 2-0 shutout win over Wilkes University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss dropped Wilkes to 4-15-1 overall and 3-10-1 in UCHC games. Utica improved to 9-13-1 overall and 9-4-1 in conference contests.
 
Levi Stanisewski scored Utica's first goal, the eventual game-winner, 11:41 into the first period. Erica Sloan added an insurance tally 2:33 into the second frame as that was all the scoring between the teams in the contest.
 
Utica held a 43-30 shot advantage as Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) finished with 41 saves in net for Wilkes on the afternoon. Laurenne Fraser (Salt Lake City, UT) was solid in the face-off circle going 12-of-20 on draws.
 
Wilkes returns home Monday when the Colonels face No. 4 Elmira College at 1:00 p.m. at the Toyota SportsPlex in a rescheduled game from last week.
