Balanced Attack Leads Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Past Bryn Athyn 15-0
BRYN ATHYN, PA – Seven different Colonels reached the points column in a balanced offensive attack as the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team opened its 2020 season with a 15-0 shutout victory at Bryn Athyn College on Saturday afternoon at General Nelson Field.
Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) led all seven Wilkes' scorers with six points on three goals and three assists.
Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) followed with four goals while
Lauren Delamater (Dallas, PA/Dallas) and
Sierra Duman (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna) each posted three points on two goals and one helper.
Wilkes held a commanding 34-9 shot advantage while posting 35 ground balls and eight draw controls. The Colonels were also solid in the clearing game finishing 13-for-21.
Wilkes raced out to an 11-0 lead at the half and never looked back as Burkhardt scored all four of her goals in the game's first 25 minutes.
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) and
Melania Velasquez (Baltimore, MD/Patapsco) split time in net for Wilkes each playing one half.
Wilkes makes its home debut next Saturday when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy University at 12:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field.
