Trio of Scorers Lead Wilkes Women's Lacrosse over Gwynedd Mercy

EDWARDSVILLE – Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton), Lauren Delamater (Dallas, PA/Dallas), and Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) combined for 13 points to lead the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team to a 12-11 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University in non-conference action at Bruggeworth Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Laura Bayzick (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) got the scoring started just 25 seconds into the game with an unassisted tally.

Gwynedd Mercy scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead with just under 24 minutes left in the first half.

Devitt tied the score with 20:38 left in the first half while Delamater followed suit with 19:16 left in the half, both unassisted to give Wilkes the lead back.

The Griffins tied the score at three with 17:50 on the clock before Devitt gave the Colonels the lead and Delamater increased the lead to 5-3 at 10:55.

Gwynedd Mercy outscored Wilkes 5-2 over the remainder of the first half as the Colonels trailed 8-7 going into halftime.

Lerch tied the score 19 seconds into the second half while Delamater helped Wilkes retake the lead before the Griffins tied the game at nine with 20:45 remaining in the game.

Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) gave the Colonels the lead for good assisted by Lerch while Devitt and Delamater helped Wilkes score three consecutive goals. The Griffins brought the lead to one but the Colonels were able to run out the clock and earn the victory.

Lerch led the way with two goals and three assists for five points while Delamater and Devitt each notched four goals.

Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made 13 saves in goal to earn the victory.

Wilkes returns to action on Tuesday when it will host Mount Saint Vincent for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.
