Wilkes Basketball to Host FDU-Florham on Senior Day

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are set to host FDU-Florham Saturday to close out the 2019-20 season on Senior Day at the Marts Center. The women's game will tip at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men at 3:00 p.m. in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) competition.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters the season finale with a 9-15 overall record and a 3-10 MAC Freedom record following a 60-55 victory over Delaware Valley on Tuesday night. A victory would give the Colonels their first 10-win season since 2014-15.

Senior's Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke), Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross), Sierra Smith (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee), and Amber Grohowski (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) will be recognized before the game with a Senior Day ceremony.

Roberts helped lead the Colonels past Delaware Valley with 18 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. Alfano also contributed 10 points, including 7-for-7 from the foul line, five rebounds and three assists in the victory.

Junior Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) leads the team with 8.9 points-per-game (ppg) and 5.7 rebounds-per-game (rpg) this season. Freshman Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) leads the Colonels with 50 assists and is tied with Alfano with a team-leading 31 steals. Freshman Macy Berryman (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain East) has connected on 42 three-pointers to lead Wilkes from beyond the arc.

Wilkes ranks seventh in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense with 55.3 ppg and fourth in scoring defense allowing 64.3 ppg.
 
FDU-Florham enters with a 6-18 overall record and are 4-9 in the league following a 60-41 loss at home to Stevens on Tuesday which snapped a three-game winning streak within the conference.

Jayda Bing leads the Devils with 12.1 ppg and is fifth in the conference with 8.1 rpg. Jennah Roman at 10.2 ppg and Cayla Staggers at 10.0 ppg also average in double-figures for FDU-Florham. Roman ranks third in the conference with 3.6 assists-per-game (apg) and 2.2 steals-per-game (spg).

FDU-Florham ranks sixth in scoring offense with 56.6 ppg and seventh in scoring defense allowing 67.9 ppg.
 
The Devils hold a 16-3 lead in the series dating back to the 2010-11 season. The Colonels have won two of the last three meeting however including a 66-65 victory in Madison, N.J. on January 25th.

Men's Preview:
Wilkes enters the final game of the season with an 11-13 overall record and a 4-9 record in MAC Freedom play after defeating Delaware Valley 83-65 on Tuesday.

Seniors Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields), Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley), and Brady Wing (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) will be recognized prior to the contest with a Senior Day ceremony.
 
Pecorelli has been scorching the net over the past seven games, including 26 points against Delaware Valley, to move into the conference lead at 19.3 ppg. He currently stands at 1,400 career points and with seven more points Pecorelli would move into the top-10 on the Wilkes all-time scoring list. Pecorelli also ranks eighth in the conference in rebounding with 6.3 rpg and fourth in assists at 4.2 apg. He is tied for third in the conference with 64 made three-pointers this season.

Mullins added 16 points and eight rebounds in the win against Delaware Valley. The senior currently stands in 17th at Wilkes with 1,288 points and tenth with 640 rebounds for his career. He is eighth in the conference in scoring at 14.9 ppg and sixth in rebounding at 6.9 rpg. 

Sophomore Donovan Breeding (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) added 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the victory Tuesday while junior Derek Heiserman (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) contributed greatly with 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals.

The Colonels lead the conference in scoring offense for the season averaging 77.1 ppg and are fifth in scoring defense at 73.9 ppg.
 
FDU-Florham enters the matchup with an 11-13 overall record and a 6-7 mark in the MAC Freedom following an close 72-70 loss to conference leader Stevens on Tuesday. The Devils need a victory over Wilkes and a loss by King's to earn the No. 4 seed in the MAC Freedom tournament.
 
Oliver Ortman leads the Devils and ranks third in the conference with 19.0 ppg. Andy Fleurantin is fifth in the league with 18.4 ppg. Ortman leads all MAC Freedom players with 70 made three-pointers this season while Fleurantin is tied for third with 64. Kenneth LaRocca ranks fifth in the conference with 3.4 apg.
 
FDU-Florham ranks fifth in scoring offense with 71.9 ppg and is sixth in scoring defense allowing 74.8 ppg.
 
The Colonels hold a 12-7 advantage in the series against the Devils dating back to the 2010-11 season, however FDU-Florham has won the past two meetings including a 77-70 win in Madison, N.J. on January 25th. Wilkes has won the five meeting at the Marts Center.
