Wilkes Women's Basketball Falls in Conference Road Matchup

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Colonels continued the second half of their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) slate with a road matchup against the Stevens Ducks in New Jersey.

The Colonels (8-12, 2-7 MACF) struggled to find any footing as they fell 72-47 to the Ducks (8-12, 5-4 MACF) for the second time this season.

The Colonels were outscored in the first quarter 18-9.  They fared better in the second, but the closest they ever got was within six points early.  The Ducks took a 7-0 run into the locker room and came out in the third quarter with a 9-2 run to take a 21-point lead that effectively put the game out of reach for the Colonels.

The Ducks would outscore the Colonels in the third 21-11 on their way to a 72-47 victory that saw four Ducks score in the double digits, once of which earned a double-double on the evening.  Senior forward Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) was a bright spot for the Colonels, scoring 16 points and recording seven rebounds.  The former was the team-high, while the latter tied for the Colonels high on the night. Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) recorded a career-high seven rebounds while Vanessa Whitecavage (Shenandoah, PA/Marian Catholic) dished out a career-best six asssits.

The Colonels continue their conference road swing with a trip to Center Valley, Pa. to face the DeSales Bulldogs.  The ball will tip at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, where the Colonels will look to even the season series after a 70-55 loss earlier this year at the Marts Center.
