HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University women's tennis team posted a 9-0 sweep of Albion College to pick up its first dual match win of the season Sunday afternoon at Chaplin Park.
 
Wilkes improved to 1-1 overall on the year while Albion dropped to 1-5 overall following the defeat.
 
Wilkes began the match with three wins in pairs play taking No. 1 doubles 8-0 (D. Markle/L. Zielinski), No. 2 doubles 8-1 (D. Yakhnis/S. Malone) and No. 3 doubles 8-5 (R. Thomas/A. Cieri).
 
The Colonels then swept all six single flights in straight sets to clinch the 9-0 shutout victory.
 
Wilkes returns to the court tomorrow with a match against Roanoke College starting at 8:30 a.m. at Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
