Wilkes Women's Tennis Scores 6-3 Win Against Methodist
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University women's tennis team scored a 6-3 victory over Methodist University late Wednesday night on its spring break trip.
Wilkes moved to 3-1 overall following the non-conference dual match win while Methodist dropped to 7-5 on the year.
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and
Dana Saliyev (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) opened the scoring for Wilkes taking No. 1 doubles 8-4 as the Colonels trailed 2-1 after pairs play.
Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) then went 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles to start the rally for Wilkes in singles play tying the match at 2-2. Saliyev scored a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 for Wilkes' third win and
Francesca Varela-Seri (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) took her No. 1 singles match by scores of 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8) for the fourth win of the match.
Dash Yakhnis clinched the match at No. 3 singles winning 7-5, 6-2.
Rachel Thomas (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) added the Colonels' sixth win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles to round out the scoring.
