Wilkes Field Hockey Earns 5-1 Homecoming Victory

EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes Colonels field hockey squad continued their 2021 season on homecoming weekend as they played host to the Delaware Valley Aggies for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom battle.

The Colonels (2-8, 1-1 MACF) took control of the game in the first period and never trailed as they won 5-1 over the Aggies (1-9, 0-2).

Senior forward Ali Dunn (Pittston, PA/Pittston) started the Colonels off on the right foot, putting home first period goals at 7:24 and 12:12 to end the first period up 2-0.  Senior forward Morghan Murphy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) assisted on the first goal.  Murphy would net the first of her two goals at 23:12 in the second period with an assist from sophomore Jordan Pugh (Plains, PA/James M. Coughlin).

The Aggies would find their lone goal of the game before half at the 27:12 mark, but Dunn would complete her hat trick at 41:16 before Murphy closed out the scoring at 57:03.

The Colonels outshot the Aggies 20-17, Murphy and Dunn combining for 14 of the Navy and Gold's shots.  Sophomore goalkeeper Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) earned the victory in goal with eight saves.

The Navy and Gold play one last non-conference game before heading into the end stretch of their regular season slate.  They host the Scranton Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Schmidt Stadium.  The Royals lead the live stats era series 6-3, and won the last matchup in 2019 3-0 at their place.
