Four Score as Wilkes Field Hockey Earns Senior Day Victory over DeSales

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University field hockey team got scoring from four different players as it earned a 4-2 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) senior day victory over DeSales University at Schmidt Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 3-3 in league play and 4-11 overall with the win.

Wilkes started the scoring in the ninth minute when Emily Latoski (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) collected the rebound off an Ali Dunn (Pittston, PA/Pittston) shot and deposited it past DeSales goalkeeper Kayla Yeatman for the early 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs tied the score in the 15th minute as the first quarter ended tied at one.

The Colonels pulled ahead for good in the second quarter when Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) scored with an assist from Kellie Scott (Northport, ME/Kents Hill) in the 20th minute.

Wilkes added on in the 22nd minute during a scrum in front when Dunn flicked a backhand pass to Olivia Gayoski (Forty Fort, PA/Valley West), who sneaked a shot past Yeatman to give the Colonels a 3-1 lead, which is where the score remained heading into halftime.

Scott added on in the 40th minute after Morghan Murphy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) played the ball in from the right baseline outside the circle, which bounced off the goalkeeper to Scott who was able to put the ball into the cage.

DeSales put on a full offensive attack in the fourth quarter, getting back one goal in the 53rd minute, but Colonels goalkeeper Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) made timely saves to keep Wilkes ahead as the final buzzer sounded.

Eidle made nine saves in the cage for Wilkes to earn the victory.

Murphy finished with six shot attempts.

Wilkes concludes the 2021 season this Wednesday when it will host Misericordia for a 7:00 p.m. MAC Freedom contest at Schmidt Stadium.
