Wilkes Women's Soccer Earns Tie with Lycoming
EDWARDSVILLE – For the second game in four days, the Wilkes University women's soccer team played a full 110 minutes to a tie. The Colonels came back from a deficit three times in their 3-3 draw against Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) opponent Lycoming College at Bruggeworth Field on Wednesday evening.
Wilkes is now 0-0-2 in conference and 3-5-2 overall.
Lycoming opened the scoring in the 15
th minute before
Sarah Eliff (Owings, MD/Northern) evened the score with an assist from
Katie Sites (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford Area).
The Warriors retook the lead in the 28
th minute as the Colonels trailed 2-1 entering halftime.
Eliff found the back of the net again in the 48
th minute off an assist from
Emily Bidelspach (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) to the score at two.
Lycoming regained the advantage in the 60
th minute. Bidelspach leveled the tally in the 79
th minute when
Karyna Vargas (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) found her off an indirect when Bidelspach dribbled around a defender and rocketed a shot past the goalkeeper.
The Colonels controlled play throughout the overtime periods, outshooting the Warriors by a combined 8-0, but were unable to convert. Overall, Wilkes held a 27-9 advantage in shots and a 7-1 lead in corner kicks.
Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) stopped four shots for the Colonels.
The Colonels return to the pitch on Saturday for a non-conference contest with Neumann at Bruggeworth Field starting at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, Wilkes will honor its seniors playing their final season.
