Wilkes Women's Basketball Opens Season with 75-39 Victory at Marts Center
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's basketball squad opened their 2021-22 season by hosting PSU Worthington Scranton at the Marts Center Thursday night.
 
The Colonels (1-0) started the game off with a 22-2 advantage over the Nittany Lions (0-2) on their way to a 75-39 victory.
 
Junior Brenna Babcock (Sweet Valley, PA/Northwest Area) started the game with six of the Colonels points off of layups in the 22-2 stretch.  The Colonels never led by less than 16 points through the remaining three quarters and led by as many as 40 points on their way to a 36 point victory over the Nittany Lions.
 
Junior guard Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) led the Navy and Gold with 18 points, including shooting 4-from-10 from the three point stripe and six rebounds.  Guards senior Kendra Smith (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) and junior Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) had three steals each, while Horton added in nine points.  First year Isabella McKeefery (Moosic, PA/Riverside) started out strong for the Colonels in her very first game, scoring 10 points, grabbing five rebounds, and a pair of steals.  Sophomore Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) had seven points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
 
The Colonels shot 41.3 from the field while PSU-Worthington shot 19.4 from the field. 
 
The Colonels continue their season by hosting Widener University at the Marts Center Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  This is the first time the Colonels have met the Pride in women's basketball.
