Arcadia Outlasts Wilkes Men's Basketball 67-62 in Road Contest
GLENSIDE, PA – The Wilkes University men's basketball squad wrapped up their 2021 slate of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom games with a trip out to face the Arcadia Knights Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels (3-6, 1-3 MACF) fell 67-62 to the Knights (2-9, 2-2) in a game where neither team ever trailed by more than eight points.
The Colonels landed the first blow, breaking open a six-all tie in the early going with a 7-0 run before Arcadia answered back with a 12-4 burst to hold a tenuous 18-17 lead over the Colonels. A 10-4 run by the Knights would push the difference to 28-21, but sophomore guard
Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) and sophomore forward
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) would team up to fuel a 13-6 Colonels run to close the first half tied 34 all with Arcadia.
The Colonels tacked on four more points to start the second half up 38-34, but a 12-2 Arcadia run would push them to a 46-42 lead. Senior guard
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer at 12:40 to close back within one, but Arcadia would grind out a 9-3 run to push their advantage to 55-48 with 8:01 left. A 9-4 Colonel run brought them within striking distance at 3:09 left, but a key three pointer for Nas Johnson stunted their momentum to push Arcadia back to a 62-57 lead. A three-pointer with 14 seconds left from Davidheiser would give the Colonels one last chance, but Arcadia sank two free throws at 11 seconds left to put the Colonels away.
Fisher recorded a double-double in the loss, scoring 23 points and adding in 10 rebounds with two steals and a block. Davidheiser had 15 points, while senior guard
Sean Coller (Hershey, PA/Hershey) rounded out the double-digit Colonels with 10 points. Marshall posted seven points, two steals, and nine rebounds.
The Colonels men's basketball squad is tentatively scheduled to return to the courts for the Franklin & Marshall Tournament on December 29 and 30. They play Wesleyan University on Wednesday, December 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Lancaster, Pa. for the first time in the live stats era.
