No. 9 Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Takes No. 2 Adrian to Limit, Falls 3-2 in Overtime
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The No. 9 Wilkes University men's ice hockey team gave Adrian College, the current No. 2 team in the nation, all it could handle but ultimately suffered a 3-2 defeat at the RMU Island Sports Complex in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels are now 9-2-0 while the Bulldogs improved to 10-1-0.
Adrian got on the board first at 9:55 of the initial period before
Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/) knotted things up at 16:26 of the first with an assist from
Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/Saint Anthony's).
Wilkes was awarded a power-play 40 seconds into the middle period, and the Colonels needed all of six seconds before
Tyler Dill (South Lake Tahoe, CA/) potted a score to give Wilkes the lead at 2-1.
The Bulldogs tied the score at two 8:18 into the second, which is where the score stood as regulation came to an end.
Adrian scored the game winner at 3:16 of the extra period.
Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, NY/) stopped 28-of-31 shots while Cameron Gray halted 13-of-15 Colonel attempts.
Wilkes returns to the ice on January 8-9 when it travels to the Nichols College Tournament in Dudley, MA.
