Kinczel's Program Record Eight Threes Lifts Wilkes Women's Basketball Over FDU-Florham
MADISON, NJ –
Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) connected on a single game school record eight three-pointers on way to a game-high 28 points to lead visiting Wilkes University to a 52-46 MAC Freedom victory over FDU-Florham Saturday afternoon.
With the win Wilkes improved to 3-5 overall and recorded its first conference win of the season standing 1-1 in league play. FDU-Florham dropped to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in MAC Freedom contests.
Kinczel was on fire from behind the line throughout the game finishing a career-best 8-for-12 from long range on way to the season-high 28 points in just 25 minutes of action.
The teams were tied at 12 after one quarter as Kinczel notched two of her eight threes in the opening stanza. After falling behind by as many as eight in the second quarter, a pair of Kinczel threes brought the Colonels to within three at the break as FDU-Florham led 28-25 at the half.
The third quarter proved to be the difference for Wilkes as the Colonels outscored the Devils 21-10 over the frame taking the lead it would never relinquish. Kinczel canned another three-pointer with just over three minutes in the frame before back-to-back driving layups by
Julia Marino (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) capped off the run as Wilkes led 46-38 after three.
FDU-Florham would get within two points with under four minutes remaining, but a layup from Kinczel and two free throws from
Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) finished off the road win for Wilkes.
Marino followed with eight points and Horton added six tallies in the win.
Angela Downey and Arian Coleman topped FDU-Florham with ten points each.
Wilkes returns to the court Wednesday with another road MAC Freedom matchup at local rival Misericordia University starting at 6:00 p.m.
