First Years Erupt in Wilkes Men's Basketball Win at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – First-year players Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) and Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA /Exeter Township) led the way for the Wilkes University men's basketball, combining for 27 points in the team's 81-66 win at Stevens Institute of Technology in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Fisher and Davidheiser both set multiple career-highs in the game, including points and minutes for both players.

The Colonels improved to 3-3 with their third straight win while the Ducks fell to 0-2.

Wilkes started the contest much like it did the day before, jumping out to a 12-2 lead with eight points coming from Sean Coller (Hershey, PA/Hershey) on two three-pointers and two free throws.

Stevens never closed the gap to fewer than seven points as the Colonels entered halftime with a 49-29 lead.

The Ducks trimmed the lead to 12 at 76-64 with 1:17 remaining, but Wilkes was able to cruise through the second half to secure the victory.

Fisher led the way with a game-high 14 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) totaled 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists while Coller added 10 points and four rebounds. Davidheiser contributed 13 points and three rebounds off the bench, shooting three-for-four from beyond the arc.

Andrew Abujawdeh led Stevens with 13 points and three assists. Alec DiPetrantonio added 12 points and eight rebounds while Maguire Sweeney chipped in 12 points off the bench.

The Colonels finished the game shooting 52 percent (11-21) from deep and 53 percent (29-55) from the floor overall. Wilkes' bench provided a jolt, winning the substitute battle 39-20.

Wilkes returns to action on Thursday when it will host Delaware Valley University for a 7:00 p.m. Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game inside the Marts Center.
