Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Chatham Barrage in Home Opener

WILKES-BARRE – The Colonels opened their home slate at the Toyota SportsPlex against United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foe Chatham in the second part of a home-and-away doubleheader.

The Colonels (0-2, 0-2 UCHC) found themselves down early and never recovered as they dropped the second game to the Cougars (3-1, 3-1) in 4-1 fashion.

The Cougars scored the first four goals of the game, at 9:37 in the first, 5:02 in the second, and a pair in the third at 1:35 and 4:21.  The Colonels were outshot in all three periods 39-17.  The lone Colonels goal came on a power play at the 12:12 mark of the third.  Junior forward Kendall Castro (Killingworth, CT/) netted the goal, with assists from sophomore defender Valerie Koenig (Arlington, TX/) and junior forward Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH/).

First year goaltender Addy Olson (Naples, FL) shined in her first appearance in Navy and Goal, recording 35 saves on 39 shots.  Lilly Rodgers earned the win on 16 saves for Chatham.  The Colonels also kept pace with the Cougars in faceoffs, winning 29 compared to their foe's 28.

The Colonels will continue conference action next weekend as they play a home-and-away doubleheader against Manhattanville.  The puck will drop at the Toyota SportsPlex next Friday at 5:00 p.m, while the time is yet to be announced for Saturday's game at the Valiants.
