Wilkes Men's Volleyball Drops 3-1 Match at Misericordia
DALLAS, PA. – The Wilkes University Colonels traveled to face the Misericordia Cougars to conclude their season series against their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe.
The Colonels (0-6) dropped the 3-1 match to the Cougars (4-8) after taking the third set from Misericordia.
The Colonels hung around early in the first set against the Cougars as they held onto a 7-5 lead, before an 18-4 run led to them dropping the set 25-13. After struggling to find any footing in the 25-17 second set, the Colonels came out firing in the third set. They took an early 9-3 lead the Cougars were unable to overcome, and led by as much as 10 points in the set before claiming it 25-16.
The Colonels trailed the entire fourth set and fell 25-19 to the Cougars to finish out the night.
First year middle hitter
Paul Binner (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) led both teams with five blocks, a career high. Sophomore outside hitter
Zach Evans (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) led the Colonels with 11 kills. Sophomore setter
Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) posted 26 assists. Evans and senior outside hitter
Andrew Potter (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) tied for the Colonel lead with six digs each.
Anthony DePalma led Misericordia and both squads with three service aces, while Matt Lavin had 13 kills to lead both teams. Dylan Sellitti led both teams with 31 assists.
The Colonels will return to action this Wednesday as they travel to face Eastern in a 7:00 p.m. match at St. Davids, Pa.
