Arcadia Posts 16-6 MAC Freedom Win Over Wilkes Men's Lacrosse
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Arcadia University built a 12-3 halftime lead and never looked back posting a 16-6 MAC Freedom victory over host Wilkes University Wednesday night a Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes dropped to 1-4, 1-2 in MAC Freedom games following the home defeat. Arcadia improved to 3-2, 2-1 conference play after recording the win.
Arcadia struck first with the game's opening goal, but the lead was short-lived as
Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) drilled a shot to the top right corner of the goal tying the game with 12:47 left in the first quarter. After what appeared to be another Arcadia goal, the play was called dead before the score keeping the game tied three minutes later. The Knights claimed the advantage back at the 7:38 mark when James Barretta found the back of the net off an assist from Brady Manion.
From there four straight Arcadia goals pushed the lead to 6-1 after one quarter. Manion added a goal and two more helpers during the scoring run for the Knights.
The Colonels cut into the deficit early in the second quarter when
Kyle Sokol (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) scored off an assist from
Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) just as an Arcadia technical penalty expired.
Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) continued the comeback with his third goal of the season unassisted at the 11:16 mark before Arcadia answered back to stop the two-goal run with a tally of its own to keep the advantage at 7-3 with just over ten minutes left until the half.
The Arcadia run continued through the end of the second quarter as five more unanswered goals gave the Knights their largest lead of the game leading 12-3 at the break.
Myers scored his second goal of the contest to start the third stanza, but three consecutive Arcadia goals including one on the man-up kept the Knights ahead 15-4 with 6:32 on the clock. Ormsby added his second goal of the season before Arcadia answered back to close out the scoring in the third with an 11-point lead.
Gavin Scofield (Stratford, CT/Stratford) scored the lone goal by either team in the final quarter as Arcadia moved over the .500 mark for the year with the ten-point win.
Ormsby led Wilkes with three points on one goal and two assists.
Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) finished with a career-best and single-game program record 22 saves in the loss in net for the Colonels.
Arcadia saw ten players reach the scoring column paced by Manion and Brian Albertsen's six points each.
