Wilkes Women's Tennis Scores 8-1 Win at Messiah
GRANTHAM, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over non-conference opponent Messiah College Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles plays before winning five-of-six of the singles flights to earn the road win.
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) led Wilkes in the No. 1 singles position scoring a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) followed with a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win at No. 2.
Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock),
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) rounded out the Wilkes winners at No. 3, 4 and 5 respectively.
Messiah's lone singles win came at No. 6 where Hannah Olsen took a 6-4, 6-3 win over
Kaitlyn O'Neil (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe).
In doubles play the duo of Yakhnis/Malone won 8-7 at No. 1. Markle/
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) took its No. 2 doubles match 8-2 before Greenman/Klein posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 pairs.
Wilkes makes its home debut Friday, April 2 hosting York College (Pa.) at 12:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
