Wilkes Women's Tennis Rolls Past York (Pa.) 8-1
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team continued its hot start posting an 8-1 victory over visiting York College (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes pushed its win stream to three standing a perfect 3-0 overall on the season while handing York (Pa.) (2-1) its first loss of the year.
Wilkes opened a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to wins from No. 2 pairs
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) and the No. 3 team of
Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) and
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees).
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) went 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Malone recorded a victory at No. 3 as Wilkes led 4-1. Markle then sealed the victory with a win at No. 2 before Greenman (No. 4),
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) (No. 5) and Cieri (No. 6) rounded out the straight set singles winners for Wilkes.
The Colonels are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Williamsport, Pa. for a road match at Lycoming College starting at 12:00 p.m.
