Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Falls to FDU-Florham on Senior Day

EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom leader FDU-Florham at Schmidt Stadium Saturday afternoon.  The Colonels honored team manager Sophia Gavigan (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton), defense Delaney Lukowski (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy), and attack Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) in their last season with the program.

The Colonels (2-5, 2-4 MACF) hung around early with the Devils (9-0, 5-0) but fell to the high-powered FDU offense in a 23-4 loss.

Sophomore midfield Brooklyn Pedana (Yatesville, PA/Pittston Area) struck first on the afternoon for either squad with a goal only a minute into play.  The Devils scored four unanswered before junior midfield Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) cut the lead to two with a goal at 22:01.  After a dry stretch for the Colonels where the Devils scored 14 unanswered, junior midfield Laura Bayzick (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) netted a goal at 26:55 of the second half with help from Pedana.  First year midfield Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) finished the scoring for both squads with a free position goal with less than half a minute to go.

Katie Walsh and Kylee Garcia each had six goals for the Devils.  Pedana was the lone Colonel with multiple points on the afternoon, while Lukowski had three ground balls in her final home game with the Colonels.  Junior goalkeeper Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) had five saves in the loss.

The Colonels continue their final stretch of the regular season with a road trip out to Reading, Pa. to face MAC Commonwealth foe Albright.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday.
