Wilkes Men's Tennis Pushes Win Streak to Five Posting 7-2 Victory Over King's
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team continued its dominance in conference play pushing its win streak to five matches as the Colonels posted a 7-2 victory over cross-town rival King's College Tuesday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in league matches while King's slipped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference contests. It marked the second time this season the two teams have competed as Wilkes posted an 8-1 victory to open the year on March 20
th in a non-conference tilt.
King's began the match with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles, but the lead was short-lived as the No. 1 pairs duo of
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) and
Jack Maline (Colorado Springs, CO/Northport) scored an 8-3 victory to tie the match at one.
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior), two-time reigning conference player of the week, teamed with
Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) at No. 2 doubles to take a hard-fought 8-7 win using a 7-3 edge to take the tiebreaker as the Colonels led 2-1 after doubles play.
Maline was the first Colonels winner in singles play posting a straight set 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 to push the lead to 3-1.
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) finished his No. 6 singles match winning 6-1, 6-2 to give Wilkes a 4-1 advantage. Gibson then sealed the team victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the top spot as Wilkes clinched the match 5-1.
Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) (6-2, 7-5) and
Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) (6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) rounded out the Wilkes winners at No. 5 and 4 respectively.
King's lone singles win came at No. 2 when Logan Gregory posted a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3) win over Toussaint.
Wilkes is back in action Saturday with another MAC Freedom match against Arcadia University starting at 1:45 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
