Wilkes Women's Tennis Wins 5-1 Over Arcadia in Rain-Shortened Match

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team posted a 5-1 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over Arcadia University in a rain-shortened match Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

With the victory Wilkes moved its unbeaten streak to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Arcadia dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in league matches.

The Colonels raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play before the rain began to force a two hour delay in play. Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles followed by Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and Sarah Malone's (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) 8-4 victory at No. 2 pairs. Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 1.

After the teams returned for singles play, Cieri took her No. 6 match 6-0, 6-2 before Yakhnis went 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 to clinch the match.

Wilkes is back in action Wednesday with a road MAC Freedom match at DeSales University starting at 3:30 p.m. in Center Valley, Pa.
