Wilkes Women's Tennis Posts 8-1 MAC Freedom Win Over DeSales
CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 MAC Freedom victory at host DeSales University Tuesday afternoon at the Bulldogs Tennis Courts.
Wilkes pushed its unbeaten streak to seven standing 7-0 overall and 4-0 in MAC Freedom play. DeSales slipped to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in league matches, its first defeat of the 2021 season.
Wilkes opened the match with a 3-0 lead taking all three doubles matches only allowing seven games throughout. The duo of
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) finished 8-2 at No. 3 followed by
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and
Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) with an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) rounded out the Colonels winners in doubles play posting an 8-3 victory at No. 1 pairs.
DeSales picked up its lone win in singles play at No. 2 before straight set wins the rest of the way for Wilkes. Yakhnis went 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, Greenman 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, Malone 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, Klein 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Cieri 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
Wilkes is back in MAC Freedom action Saturday hosting Misericordia University at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
