EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season with a 7-2 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory over Misericordia University Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex courts.

Wilkes improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the league while Misericordia fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference.

The Colonels opened a 3-0 lead after doubles play. The No. 3 pairing of Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) finished first with an 8-3 victory. Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) then took the No. 1 doubles match 8-5 and Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) followed suit at No. 2 also finishing with an 8-5 win.

Emily Brecker's victory at No. 2 singles put the Cougars on the board but Greenman put the Colonels on the brink of clinching the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. Brianna Pizzano made the team score 4-2 with a win in the No. 1 slot. Malone then clinched the match for Wilkes with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Klein took her No. 5 singles match 6-1, 6-0 and Cieri finished off the 7-2 victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.

The Colonels close out the regular season next Saturday when they face FDU-Florham at the Kirby Park Courts and Stevens Institute of Technology at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
