Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Drops Regular Season Finale at Misericordia

DALLAS, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels traveled to Misericordia to face their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom rival in their regular season finale.

The Colonels (2-7) dropped the finale to the Cougars (7-3) 18-6.

Misericordia scored the first five goals of the contest before sophomore Brooklyn Pedana (Yatesville, PA/Pittston Area) broke the streak with a man-down goal at 22:00 in the first period.  The Cougars would score five more goals in the period, but the Colonels hung around thanks to a goal from junior Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) at 12:29 and goals by junior Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) at 8:34 and :16 respectively

Lerch replied to an early second half goal from the Cougars at 24:19 into the frame, but Misericordia would go on to score seven unanswered to put the game firmly out of reach from the Navy and Gold.  Lerch put the finishing touch on her four-goal night with the game's final goal with 3:10 left to play.

Sophomore Abby Miller (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) led the Colonels with four ground balls.  Pedana had seven draw controls to lead Wilkes, while Lerch led the Colonels in goals (four), points (four) and shots on goal (seven).  Junior Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) posted another double-digit save game ending the night with 10 saves.  Michelle Torzilli led the Cougars with five goals, while Justine Johnson and Taylor Hannaberry tied for the Misericordia lead with four assists.  Each player accounted for six points for the Cougars.

The Colonels have concluded their regular season and wait to see who they will meet in the MAC Freedom tournament.  The quarterfinals are set to be played next Tuesday, April 27th, time and place to be determined.
