Wilkes Men's Tennis Sweeps Past Misericordia
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team swept visiting Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex courts.
Wilkes improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the league with the 9-0 victory while Misericordia fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.
The Colonels swept doubles play only dropping two games. The No. 2 pairing of
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) and
Jack Maline (Colorado Springs, CO/Northport) finished first with an 8-0 victory.
Connor Murphy (Denver, PA/Cocalico) and
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) took No. 3 doubles 8-0 and then
Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) and
Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win in the No. 1 slot.
Toussaint won his No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and then Gibson clinched the match for Wilkes with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Greenman (6-2, 6-0) at No. 2, Murphy (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4,
Drew Fiedler (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 and
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) (6-2, 6-4) at No. 6 rounded out the singles winners.
The Colonels close out the regular season next Saturday when they face FDU-Florham at the Kirby Park Courts and Stevens Institute of Technology at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
