Wilkes Men's Tennis Splits Regular Season Finales Against FDU-Florham, Stevens
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team concluded regular season play splitting a pair of matches on Saturday morning/afternoon. The Colonels began the day with a 6-3 win over FDU-Florham at the Kirby Park Courts before falling 9-0 against Stevens Institute of Technology at the Ralston Athletic Complex later in the day.
Wilkes finished the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and 5-2 mark in MAC Freedom matches.
In the win against FDU-Florham, Wilkes battled back after trailing 2-1 after doubles play. The duo of
Jack Maline (Colorado Springs, CO/Northport) and
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) were the lone doubles winners at No. 2 taking their match 8-5.
The comeback started with No. 1
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) who cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory to tie the match at two.
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) then won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 to give Wilkes a 3-2 lead before wins from Toussaint at No. 4 and
Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) at No. 3, both in straight sets, clinched the win for the Colonels.
Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) went 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 5 to round out the Wilkes singles winners.
In the second match of the day, Stevens opened with a 3-0 lead after doubles play taking all three matches by score of 8-2.
In the only match that didn't go in straight sets, Gibson fell in a hard-fought match at No. 1 to Keegan Morris 6-0, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-8)
Wilkes finished as the third seed in next week's MAC Freedom Championship Tournament and will host sixth seed Arcadia University in the quarterfinals on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Should the Colonels prevail, the semifinals are set for Wednesday.
