Wilkes Closes Out Regular Season Unbeaten with Wins Against FDU-Florham, Stevens
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team finished the regular season in fine fashion with a pair of 8-1 victories over FDU-Florham and Stevens Institute of Technology Saturday morning/afternoon.
 
The Colonels pushed its overall record to 10-0 while finishing 7-0 in MAC Freedom play.
 
In the match against FDU-Florham, Wilkes stormed out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and never looked back. The duo of Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) took No. 1 doubles 8-5 before Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) and Sarah Malone (Williamsport, PA/Loyalsock) won 8-0 at No. 2. Wilkes earned a forfeit win at No. 3 pairs.
 
Wilkes then earned straight set wins at No. 2 through 4 in singles play thanks to the play of Markle, Greenman and Kaitlyn O'Neil (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) while also receiving forfeit victories at No. 5 and 6. FDU-Florham's lone win came at No. 1 singles.
 
Stevens also entered its match with four players as Wilkes cruised to another league win. Yakhnis and Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) picked up an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles and Markle and Greenman won 8-1 at No. 2 before a forfeit by Stevens at No. 3.
 
Markle took her No. 2 singles match 7-5, 6-0 and Malone won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. Greenman outlasted her opponent 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) to round out the Colonels singles winners in the match. Stevens forfeited No. 5 and 6 singles.
 
Wilkes earned the top seed in next week's MAC Freedom Championship Tournament and will host eighth seeded King's College in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Should the Colonels prevail, the semifinals are set for Thursday.
