Wilkes Men's Tennis Sweeps York (Pa.) 9-0
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team remained unbeaten in its 2021 spring campaign after posting a 9-0 shutout win over visiting York College (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Wilkes improved to 3-0 on the season following the home victory while York (Pa.) dropped to 0-3 overall.
Wilkes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play as the team of
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior)/
Jack Maline (Colorado Springs, CO/Northport) won 8-3 at No. 1 pairs.
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) followed with an 8-0 victory at No. 2 before the Colonels received a forfeit at No. 3 doubles.
Gibson then took his singles match at the top spot 6-0, 6-2. Toussaint won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 followed by straight set wins from Maline (No. 3), Greenman (No. 4) and
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) (No. 5).
Connor Murphy (Denver, PA/Cocalico) received a forfeit win at No. 6 to round out the sweep of singles competition for the Colonels.
Wilkes is back in action Saturday, April 10 with a road match at Lycoming College starting at 12:00 p.m.
