Wilkes Men's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season with Messiah Doubleheader

MECHANICSBURG, PA – The Wilkes University men's volleyball team wrapped up their regular season with a pair of matches at the Messiah Falcons Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels (0-13) fell in their Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) regular season finales to the Falcons (14-2) 3-1 (14-25, 25-16, 19-25, 17-25) and 3-0 (16-25, 15-25, 13-25)

After not mustering much in the first set, a 5-2 run gave the Colonels a 10-7 edge in the second set.  The Colonels would never look back in the set, finishing off the 25-16 victory with an 8-2 run to take the 25-16 affair.  The Navy and Gold hung tough with Messiah through most of the third set, never trailing by more than three, before a 5-2 run put away the set in favor of the Falcons.  The Colonels never led in the fourth set, with an early 7-0 run by Messiah essentially putting away the set and match in the Falcons favor.

Sophomore setter Casey Shipman (Hershey, PA/Hershey) set a career high in assists in the first match with 29.  Junior middle hitter Ethan Speicher (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) led the Colonels with nine kills in the first match, while sophomore outside hitter Zach Evans (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) had 11 digs.

The Colonels fell in straight sets in the second match, never hitting more than 16 points in any given set.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Colonels will participate in the MAC Tournament consolation bracket as the No. 9 seed.  They will travel to face No. 6 seed Misericordia this Wednesday at Dallas, Pa., with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
