Wilkes Softball Falls in Doubleheader at Arcadia
GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Wilkes University softball team traveled to Arcadia University for a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, dropping game one 6-2 before falling in game two 8-0 in five innings.
The Colonels are now 2-10 overall and in conference while Arcadia improved to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.
Wilkes opened the scoring in game one when
Caylee-Mae Williams (Yuba City, CA/River Valley) hit a one-out double in the top of the third, advanced to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on a single from
Rachel Pritchard (Wilmington, DE/Concord).
The Colonels doubled their lead in the top of the fourth when
Jessie Smith (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) led off with a single, moved to second on a
Taylor Douple (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) sacrifice bunt, moved to third when Williams singled to left, and scored on an infield single off the bat of
Rhia Aurand (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove).
Arcadia changed the tide in the bottom of the fifth with six runs on seven hits.
Rhia Aurand (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) fell to 1-2 on the season, allowing six runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Pritchard tossed the final 1.1 innings, allowing zero runs on two hits with no walks and one strikeout.
Pritchard led the way at the plate in game one, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Williams (2-4, one rbi, one run), Aurand (2-3) and Smith (2-4, one run) finished with multiple hits for Wilkes.
The Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game two, and tacked on two more runs in the second and one in the third.
Sami Hendershott (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) allowed five runs without recording an out on four hits with one walk.
Hope Mullins (Midland, VA/Liberty) finished the game allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Williams and
Haley Boyd (Escalon, CA/Escalon) had both of the Colonels hits in game two.
Wilkes returns to the diamond on Saturday when it travels to Lebanon Valley for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
