Murphy's Two Goals Lift Wilkes Field Hockey to First Win of the Season

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Morghan Murphy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) scored the game's first two goals to lift the visiting Wilkes University field hockey team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Elmira College Sunday Afternoon.

Wilkes earned its first win of the 2021 season moving to 1-3 overall on the year. Elmira fell to 0-4 overall on the season. It was the first win with Wilkes for head coach Charlotte MacDonald.

Murphy broke open a scoreless game at the 27 minute mark notching an unassisted tally to put the Colonels up 1-0. Five minutes into the third quarter, Murphy struck again, this time off a helper from Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Elmira's Katelin Bailey cut the deficit in half at the 48:53 mark, but Ali Dunn (Pittston, PA/Pittston) sealed the non-league road win with her second goal of the season off an assist from Maura Hensel (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) with just under nine minutes to play.

Wilkes held an 18-6 shot advantage throughout the contest while garnering 10 penalty corners to Elmira's three attempts.
