Wilkes Men's Soccer Falls to Susquehanna Barrage on Road
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Wilkes University men's soccer team continued their 2021 campaign with a rainy weeknight affair against the Susquehanna Riverhawks.
The Colonels (3-2) fell behind after two unanswered Riverhawk (2-3) goals to drop the 4-2 road non-conference affair.
The two teams had a busy first 17 minutes as they combined for three goals. Susquehanna scored at 10:54 and 16:22, while the Colonels netted a goal thanks to senior midfielder
Andrew Reichard (Easton, PA/Easton Area) at 14:13 with an assist from sophomore midfielder
Colin Schulmeister (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook). Neither team found net until the second half, where the Riverhawks effectively put away the game with a goal at 49:45. First year
Xavier Guerreiro (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) continued his strong start to his Navy and Gold career with a goal at 70:57 with an assist from fellow first year
Herbert Ramirez (Highstown, NJ/Highstown). The Riverhawks shut the door on the hopes of the Colonels sending it to overtime with an insurance goal at 80:51 to seal the 4-2 loss.
The Riverhawks outshot the Colonels 14-4.
Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) and
Nick Kinzler (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) split time in goal for the Navy and Gold, with Tone taking the loss.
The Colonels look to bounce back from their back-to-back losses with a trip to La Plume, Pa. on Sunday. They play Keystone College at 2:00 p.m. The Colonels have the edge on the Giants in the live stats era 2-1-1, and the two tied the last time they met in 2019.
