Wilkes Men's Soccer Snaps Losing Skid with Late Goals at Keystone
LA PLUME, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels looked to get back to their winning ways Sunday with a trip out to face the Keystone Giants.
The Colonels (4-2) fell behind 1-0 early in the second half to the Giants (3-3-1), before a pair of late goals sent the Navy and Gold home with a 2-1 victory.
Keystone struck first at 62:12, but
Andrew Slusser (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood Area) responded quickly at 64:15 with an assist from
Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior).
Colin Schulmeister (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook) put home the game-winning goal at 81:40 to give the Colonels the victory on the afternoon.
The Colonels outshot the Giants 24-14.
Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) earned the victory in goal with four saves and one goal allowed, while Horwedel led all Colonels with five shots. Three Colonels had three shots, and three other Colonels had two shots.
The Navy and Gold start a five-game home stand next Wednesday as they look to build upon their victory today. They play host to Moravian College at 7:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field. The Colonels are 1-4 in the live stats era against Moravian and lost to them in 2019 on the road 2-1.
