Wilkes Men's Soccer Earns 3-2 Victory at Home against Moravian

EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes men's soccer team continued their 2021 season under the lights at Bruggeworth Field Wednesday night against Moravian.

The Colonels (5-2) struck first in the game against the Grayhounds (3-3-1) and took home a 3-2 victory, their second straight.

Senior Andrew Reichard (Easton, PA/Easton Area) put home the only goal of the first half at 15:00, a chip in from the front of the net into the top right corner.  Fellow senior Gabriel Nieves (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland Senior) assisted on the goal.  The offenses came alive during the second half of the game, with first year Lucas Mueller (Dusseldorf, Germany/Quirinus- Gynasium) chipping in a shot over the Moravian goalie at the 53:03 mark with help from senior Michael Buckholtz (Huntingtown, MD/Northern).

After a foul call erased a potential Grayhound goal, Anthony Nagy placed a beautiful free kick just out of senior goalkeeper Zach Tone's (Easton, PA/Easton Area) reach in the upper right corner of the net at 60:49.  Senior Ryan Marr (Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key) put home another chip shot past the goaltender at 79:27 with an assist from senior Danny McGinley (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) in what would prove to be the eventual game-winner.  Moravian would strike past Tone one last time at 89:16, but would not threaten the Colonels goal again.

The Colonels outshot Moravian 17-16.  The affair was a rather chippy one, with each team earning two yellow cards while combining for 26 fouls.  Tone recorded seven saves in the victory.

The Navy and Gold look to build on their small winning streak as they continue the rest of their five-game homestand.  They play host to Immaculata University this upcoming Saturday at 4:00 p.m.   The first time the two teams met in the live stats era was in 2019, where the Colonels lost a tough 3-2 game at Immaculata.
