First Half Outburst Carries Wilkes Men's Soccer to Victory over Immaculata
EDWARDSVILLE – Three first-half goals carried the Wilkes University men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over visiting Immaculata University at Bruggeworth Field in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels improved to 6-2-0 on the 2021 season with the victory.
Andrew Reichard (Easton, PA/Easton Area) got the scoring started in the 24
th minute with an assist from
Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior).
Danny McGinley (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) doubled the lead in the 35
th minute, helped by a
Ryan Marr (Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key) assist.
McGinley and Marr teamed up again in the 40
th minute when Marr fought along the goal line to get the pass off to McGinley, who made a flick with the back of his heel to tap the ball in and give Wilkes a 3-0 cushion.
Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) earned the victory playing the first 45'.
Nick Kinzler (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) played the first 31:43 of the second half making one save while
Russell Rauh (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington Senior) covered the final 13:17, stopping two shots.
The Colonels finished the game with an 18-9 advantage in shot attempts.
Wilkes returns to the pitch on Tuesday when it will host Scranton for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Bruggeworth Field.
