Wilkes Field Hockey Falls Against Elizabethtown 3-1
EDWARDSVILLE – Elizabethtown College raced out to a 3-0 lead on way to a 3-1 victory over host Wilkes University Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium.
Wilkes fell to 1-8 overall following the home defeat while Elizabethtown improved to 5-4 on the season after the road victory.
Elizabethtown scored a pair of goals in the first half, one tally in the first quarter at 7:!2 and the second in the second frame at 5:52 to tale a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Blue Jays added to their lead in the third quarter scoring with 1:02 left in the period to take a 3-0 advantage.
Wilkes got on the board with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter as a ball deflected off
Morghan Murphy (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) and onto the stick of
Ali Dunn (Pittston, PA/Pittston) who deposited it into the back of the cage to cut into the lead at 3-1.
Wilkes had several penalty corner opportunities late, but could not add any more goals.
Elizabethtown held a 16-14 shot advantage throughout the game while garnering six penalty corners to Wilkes' three attempts.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with six saves in the cage for the Colonels.
Wilkes continues its home stretch Saturday when the Colonels host MAC foe Delaware Valley University at 4:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
