Horwedel's Late Goal Sends Wilkes Men's Soccer Past Juniata

Matthew Horwedel's (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) 81
st-minute direct kick goal helped lead the Wilkes University men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Juniata College at Bruggeworth Field on Tuesday evening.
The Colonels improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory.
Neither team was able to convert an opportunity in the first half as the score remained level through the first 45 minutes.
Xavier Guerreiro (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) continued his hot play to start the season getting the Colonels on the board in the 51
st minute as he put home the rebound of a Horwedel shot that hit the post.
Andrew Reichard (Easton, PA/Easton Area) doubled the lead when he put home a shot with an assist from
Danny McGinley (Brodheadsville, PA/Pleasant Valley) in the 64
th minute.
The Falcons tied the score at two with goals in the 64
th and 69
th minutes.
Horwedel put Wilkes ahead for good when he lined up for a direct kick following a foul called on Juniata, lining the shot off a defender and past Juniata's goalkeeper.
Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) improved to 3-0 making five saves.
The Colonels led in shot 20-18 and shots on goal 9-7.
Wilkes returns to the pitch on Saturday when they host Drew University for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game.
