Wilkes Basketball Set to host Stevens on Saturday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's and men's basketball teams are set to host Stevens Institute of Technology for a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contests on Saturday at the Marts Center. The women's game will tip at 12:00 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 2:00 p.m. prior to the Wilkes Athletics Hall of Fame virtual ceremony at 4:00 p.m.

Due to the current No Spectator Policy at Wilkes through January 28th no fans will be permitted to attend. Live links are provided below to follow the action.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes enters the conference matchup with a 3-3 record in the MAC Freedom and a 4-8 record overall following a 70-49 loss at Lycoming on Wednesday. The Colonels are 2-2 at home this season.

Julianna Askins (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) scored a career high 10 points to lead the Colonels on offense against the Warriors. She also grabbed a career high five rebounds in the game. Alexa Jones (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) also scored her Wilkes-high of nine points. Kendra Smith (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) led the Colonels with eight rebounds. Emma Stout (Bangor, PA/Bangor) also recorded career highs with six points and five rebounds.

Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) leads Wilkes and ranks ninth in the MAC Freedom with 12.9 points-per-game (ppg). She is tied for second in the league with 33 made three pointers and leads the conference with a .375 three-point shooting percentage. Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) is second on the team with 8.4 ppg and 5.0 rebounds-per-game (rpg).

Julia Marino (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) leads the conference with 5.2 assists-per-game (apg) totaling 57 for the season. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) leads the Colonels with 5.5 rpg and is the MAC Freedom leader with 2.1 blocks-per-game (bpg) as she has totaled 23 this season. She is third on the team in scoring at 7.2 ppg.

Wilkes is sixth of nine teams in the MAC Freedom with a 55.5 scoring average and tied for seventh defensively allowing 64.8 ppg.

Stevens comes in with a 5-1 record in the conference and the Ducks are 10-2 overall. Stevens is 4-1 on the road this season.

Jess Broad leads the Ducks and ranks seventh in the league with 14.0 ppg and she is ranked second among MAC Freedom players with 8.6 rpg. Broad is also fifth in the conference with 3.8 apg, tied for second with 2.0 bpg, and third with 2.8 steals-per-game. Allie Moss is second on the team with 11.3 ppg.

Stevens is third in the MAC Freedom with 63.1 ppg and ranks first allowing 52.0 ppg.

The Ducks won both meetings last season, the first games during the live stats era between the two programs.

Men's Preview:
Wilkes enters with a 1-5 record in the MAC Freedom and a 3-9 mark overall following a 69-92 loss at Lycoming on Wednesday night. The Colonels are 0-2 at home this season.
 
Derek Heiserman (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) scored a career high 15 points and led Wilkes with seven rebounds against the Warriors. Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) also scored his career high of 15 points in the game and added five rebounds. Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) joined Heiserman and Shafer in double figures with a career high 14 points. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) led the Colonels with four assists while Colin Post (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) grabbed a career high six rebounds and added three assists.
 
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) leads the MAC Freedom with 16.5 ppg and his 6.7 rpg rank tenth in the league. Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) is ninth in the league in scoring at 12.7 ppg and 11th with 6.4 rpg. Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) is also scoring in double figures for the Colonels at 10.7 ppg. Davidheiser leads the Colonels with 19 made three pointers and is third in the league lead with a .422 three-point shooting percentage.

Marshall is third in the conference with 4.2 apg, Fisher is fifth in the league with 1.6 blocks-per-game and is fourth with 1.6 steals-per-game.

Wilkes is second in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 77.9 ppg while ranking seventh in scoring defense at 77.3 ppg.

Stevens comes in at 3-3 in the conference and 4-6 overall. The Ducks are 1-2 on the road this season.

Alec DiPietrantonio is eighth in the MAC Freedom with 13.7 ppg and tied for second with 10.3 rpg to average a double-double. Jack Spellman is fourth in the league with 8.0 rpg and third with 2.0 bpg while scoring 9.9 ppg. Conor Coffey is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 ppg. Matt Crowley is tied for fifth with 3.4 apg. Matt LaCorte leads the Ducks with 20 three pointers.

Stevens is ranked ninth in the MAC Freedom with 64.4 ppg and is second allowing 68.4 ppg.

Wilkes holds a 3-1 edge in the series over the past two seasons including two wins last year 81-66 and 69-66.
