Gallagher Pots Two to Lift No. 7 Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey over Chatham
PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
Jay Gallagher (Reading, MA/) lit the lamp twice, including the game-winner, to help the No. 7 Wilkes University men's ice hockey team to a 4-2 win at Chatham University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels improved to 6-1-0 in league play, 10-3-0 overall while the Cougars are now 3-3-2 in UCHC competition, 5-7-2 overall.
Chatham opened the scoring at 1:34 of the first period before
Jack Lane (South River, NJ/) tied the score at 13:37 of the first with an assist from
Max Cocchi (Ludlow, MA).
Gallagher gave Wilkes the lead just 49 seconds into the second with
Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/) getting the lone helper. The Cougars tied the score at 9:43 of the second.
Gallagher put the Colonels ahead for good at 17:29 of the third assisted by
Tyler Dill (South Lake Tahoe, CA/) before
Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/) put the game away at 19:44 with an empty-net score.
Nico Pidro (Cannonsburg, PA/) earned the win for Wilkes, stopping 20-of-22 shots.
The Colonels won 50 of 77 face-offs, led by 19 wins in the circle from Flynn.
Wilkes returns to action on Friday when it will host Neumann University for a 5:00 p.m. UCHC game.
