Second Period Explosion Secures Big Win for No. 9 Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey

WILKES-BARRE – A five-goal second period was more than enough to lead the No. 9 Wilkes University men's ice hockey team to a 7-2 victory over Neumann University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action at the Toyota SportsPlex on Friday evening.

The Colonels improved to 7-1-0 in conference play and 11-3-0 overall with the win.

Neumann got the only goal of the first period at 10:12 on the power-play.

Jimmy O'Kane (Chicago, IL/Notre Dame Prep) got Wilkes on the board at 1:43 of the second with a power-play tally assisted by Scott Mueller (Mount Juliet, TN/).

Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/Saint Anthony's) put the Colonels ahead for good at 4:02 of the second on the power-play with assists from Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/) and Nick Fea (Oak Ridge, NJ/) before Tyler Dill (South Lake Tahoe, CA/) got in on the scoring just 55 seconds later with an assist from Billy Berry (Redding, CT/).

Jay Gallagher (Reading, MA/) (Dill, Taylor Brierley (East Grand Forks, MN)) and Michael Gurska (Revere, MA/) (Barrow, Fea) finished the second period scoring with power-play tallies at 5:41 and 12:28, respectively.

Barrow found the net again at 11:40 of the third with assists from Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/) and O'Kane while Tyson Araujo (Vineyard Haven, MA) notched the final score at 17:32 with assists from Devon Schell (Scarsdale, NY/) and Ryan Galvin (Atlanta, GA/).

Nico Pidro (Cannonsburg, PA/) was solid in net for Wilkes, stopping 27-of-28 shots before being replaced by Luc Fox (Valencia, CA/) halfway through the third period.

The Colonels won 47-of-75 face-offs (63 percent), led by 14 wins from Berry and 11 from Flynn.

Wilkes returns to the ice tomorrow when it will host Manhattanville for a 5:00 p.m. UCHC contest.
