Stevens Hot Shooting Lifts Ducks Over Wilkes Women's Basketball 76-51
WILKES-BARRE – Visiting Stevens Institute of Technology raced out to a 40-20 halftime lead and never looked back on way to a 76-51 MAC Freedom victory against Wilkes University Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.
Wilkes dropped to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in MAC Freedom games following the home defeat. Stevens improved to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in league contests.
Stevens scored the game's first ten points before a jumper from
Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) put Wilkes on the board. The lead grew to as many as 15 points before a
Jordyn Jennings (York, PA/Northeastern) score in the paint kept Wilkes in the contest trailing 24-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Stevens took its biggest lead of the game midway through the second frame and continued to hit on all cylinders offensively to end the half canning four three-pointers over the final five minutes of the stanza to take the 20-pint advantage to the break.
The Stevens lead ballooned to as many as 27 points in the second half behind hot shooting as the Ducks finished the game at 45.1 percent (32-71) from the field while connecting on nine total three-pointers (39.1 percent).
Jennings finished her career-day with 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting.
Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) followed with 10 points, three rebounds and four blocks.
Stevens saw 13 different players reach the scoring column as Allie Moss led the way with 14 points including four treys while adding a team-high six helpers.
Stevens held a commanding advantage on the boards totaling 53 rebounds to Wilkes' 32.
Wilkes returns to the court Monday for a non-conference matchup against Penn College at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
